Yesterday the weather was lovely and saw 3 brimstones as we went into the wood. Today, the weather was cooler, and rain started late morning. We were cutting birch but we had to give up as it was just too wet. We can't bundle wet birch as it will rot, so will have to try to dry it out a bit before bundling. The problem is that some of it is coming into leaf, so must be kept in subdued light or it will leaf up and go brittle, so not be of any use.
Got out into the main part of the wood today and had a look round as we had a man from the Forestry Commission with us to look at the potential need for deer management. Found some early violets, the odd bluebell coming up to flower, primroses, a few wood anemones and some toothwort. Heard several wrens, a tit of some sort, robin and saw a buzzard flying through the trees.
