As I have said in other topics, we make charcoal for barbecues and the 'fines' or stuff too small for barbecues can be used on the garden. I have used it on my vegetable raised beds and it does seem to hold the moisture and release it as needed. If used on the compost heap or mixed with other compost it can absorb nutrients from the compost and release them slowly to the plants. I haven't seen vast improvements in my vegetables, but it does seem to help.

The National Coppice Federation are looking into the production, composition, uses, and marketing of biochar, and are interested in any feedback.

Has anyone used biochar and have they any thoughts on it?
