I have just taken the reading glasses to the store cupboards and the deep freezer. 1 bag of frozen broad beans dating back to 2001 - not sure how that happened. they are well freezer burned and not at all appetising looking. 4 tins of butter beans/red kidney beans should have been used mid last year. But the tins look fine so will use these up asap.

Now to settle down and do some meals for the freezer. It's not really full so back to the recipe books.

You may be able to manage a vegan version, but I did bolognaise sauce on Saturday and put 2 portions of that in the freezer for future reference. I also do a cassoulet and put extra portions of that in the freezer. I may do some more this week as the recipe I have uses chicken, bacon and sausage, and we had roast chicken yesterday, so there will be some for the cassoulet and I will try to buy some bacon offcuts, so with sausages in the freezer and tinned tomato and haricot beans, most ingredients.

Bolognaise sauce is easy to "veganise" so a good suggestion. Thank you.

Well by the time the supermarket delivery arrives Saturday tea time, it will be three weeks out of the store cupboard. Allowing for 2 loaves of bread. Oh and two packets of tea bags from the Rington's Man.

I've discovered a horde of teabags in an obscure drawer - all in date. The Rington's Man may have to go for a period.

So - 2 start again Sunday am?

This is going rather well actually. It's miserable weather to go out anyway.

I went into the Metro Centre for some exercise out of the rain, to pick up some hand cream and toothpaste from the cheap Savers and to pick up some petty cash from the free ATMs. The real temptation is Krispie Kreme which does a couple of Vegan items. No point in doing cakes for one.

If it would stop raining I could even go out for a walk.

Can't agree with you about Krispi Kreme I am afraid Florence. To me donuts are jam. Icing and donut is just too much fat and sweet for me.

Agree about the rain. We are hoping tomorrow is going to be a bit better as we really must cut birch. Husband and son were out in the woods today clearing some fallen trees from footpaths. They didn't get too wet as it was more drizzly. I went shopping.

Florence, would it make sense to bake cupcakes? Suitable size for an individual single serving, keep for a couple of days (if not consumed) and may be frozen too.

Jam Lady it would be sensible and I'm able to do it.

But I am not often sensible. I have daughter and step daughter for sensible (not mentioning the two boys who rarely do sensible).

It snows. Home is good and food in the cupboard good.

At the moment my grocery store of choice has stopped stocking tinned butter beans. Too much effort to soak and cook with tins being good to go in the recycling bin. And not the dreaded plastic of course. Every sort of kidney bean, chick pea, cannelloni and so on but not butter bean.

I fancied going into the expensive village for expensive but very nice vegan chocolate. Didn't give into temptation.

I must say tinned beans are a good idea. If I make pea and ham soup I use dried peas, but if I need something like haricot beans, tins are far easier. In the case of red kidney beans a lot safer too.

Certainly with regards to cooking times, tinned beans are good.
