Florence, I don't think anyone can. The price of petrol and diesel at the pumps has gone up already, which increases our company costs. Have just had to fill up both trucks, so not good.
If you are still messing around with this war in 8 weeks today, I'll come stay at your place. You are a well paid business man besides having a well paid public position. I'm just an everyday OAP. You can afford me. I don't drink, smoke, drive a car or fly a private aircraft.
Yours sincerely
Florence
PS bet you'll be suing for peace after a week of me
With two months to go to the end of the household energy tariff, I decided to have a look at what's on offer to take over. It ain't good. Only Eon and British Gas seem to be offering anything and they say that rates will vary every 3 months. Ecotricity, OVO and Octopus are saying nothing.
The cost of my bill could well be upsizing and my usage downsizing.
There are a couple of newer, smaller companies around offering sort of better prices.
Fuse Energy started in 2023. Bit new for me having been down the road with a new, smaller supplier back in 2002 (remember the days of energy suppliers going out of business overnight in droves, been there, done that).
So Energy has survived since 2015 but to be offering prices that compare with the bigger, longer term suppliers is one for thinking over. Specially as the bigger, longer standing firms are not promising more than 3 months at stated prices.
As things stand at the moment, I am not surprised. If you can get a longer term contract with someone that is well established; fine, but I wouldn't go with a small or recently formed one.
Good thing I don't officially have an end date till 21st May with the gas/electric. We should know how much worse things are by then. I'm just keeping an eye on things. Hope for the best and expect the worst sort of thing.
I spoke to someone from Octopus energy today and they do a fixed price contract, but not sure how long for or how much. I was trying to get rid of the man, so didn't enquire any further.
My supplier has absolutely nothing on offer at the moment for the future. They are trying to get my balance down to next to nothing by the end of March. Goodness knows what they will do for April and the 21 days of May. Perhaps they don't either.
British Gas and Eon are only offering variable tariffs at the moment if you switch (or have to switch). Which is almost the same as being on the price cap and not on a tariff. Over the years (at least 25) I have always gone for a fixed tariff.
For state pensioners and small businesses the present situation is not good.
I've just had a read of what's on my supplier's website. It's generally pay what they ask and they will update us on April 1st or as soon thereafter as possible. In other words, they are as wise as the rest of us.
