Bought a new table lamp - large size - so that I don't have to run up a ladder to change the ceiling light if I can't find an amenable minion in the future. Bayonet fitting of course and nothing suitable in the store as all the bungalow fittings are the "other" sort. Visit to Argos as Wilko is no more.
Remember when there were free handouts of CFL bulbs when these came in new? I have one spiral of the old type fittings left and a box of 3 leds from before Wilko shut down.
The landlord fits waterproof lighting in shower rooms and will replace those. The new kitchen has a strip light. No idea about replacing that. Bet neither of them are energy efficient
The strip light will be a fluorescent, so more efficient that a tungsten one I think. A new one would probably be LEDs so even more efficient. The bathroom one will depend upon age. The fitting is waterproof so the bulb in side could be anything.
LED light bulbs have been around for more than 5 years, but he might have had a cache or older lights, so as you say 'anything'. If the kitchen light comes on straight away it isn't going to be a fluorescent tube.
I've got 4 light bulbs of the "other" fitting - i.e. not bayonet as there are two ceiling light fittings here that are so old they don't take bayonet type bulbs.
One does love social landlords but doubtless it would cost a fortune to go round all their properties to update these things.
iirc led bulbs can be obtained with many types of connective fittings, bayonet in at least 2 sizes ,ditto screw in ones, led strip lights are pretty good.
if you do not have a convenient electrical supplier or good hardware shop amazon probably has what you need
if you were near York i would suggest visiting or phoning Barnitts who seem to have just about everything for everything and have dog treats for polite visitors
screwfix might have what you need as might a local electrical supplier
most places will deliver(often within a few hours)
identify the type of fittings and search online for the correct bulbs
modern led are ace, long lasting and in a variety of lumens,spectra and retro fittings
Would you believe that John Lewis claims to have screw in led bulbs locally. And there is a John Lewis at the end of a nice bus ride form the front door (using the free bus pass). So click and collect should do the job.
