When you buy on the internet, once a company has your details in its system you can well be there for ever.

I've been around my long list of places I have been a buyer from over the years. Managed to delete myself from a few databases where I've been a regular in long past history But you'd been amazed how hard it can be.

At least it now seems to be possible to unsubscribe from marketing garbage. If you can drop in and buy the cooker, freezer, washing machine, computer or whatever because you don't drive, life is fun. Not.

Mind when I moved in here, it took some time to persuade one company who regularly sent catalogues, that the lady concerned was many years dead. And at the previous address, debt collectors found a land line for the place and wanted to chase debts for the previous tenant (that was fun, referred them to the landlord for a forwarding address). Seems that it's not just internet shopping that does it.

I wonder how many places are still getting catalogues for me though I don't live there any more. It's the pleasure of moving on regularly.

Is 25 years enough?

I've been digging into places that I can remember where I have bought from in the past 10 or so years that haven't gone out of business. Hey but there's two seed sellers where the system sends you round in circles but there's no way to contact unless it's a query about an order.

And the fun I had with another company explaining that I was no longer on the allotment committee and certainly didn't do the seed sales for the association hut.

When we moved to this house we had letters and phone calls that were for the previous owner for some time. Worryingly some were from HMRC, but luckily it didn't go any further than letters. We sent them on to the address they told us they were going to be living.

I tried to get in touch with Parcel Force once; that was very interesting and they don't want to be found. I do get a few adverts from companies that I no longer patronise; one garden centre because they gave up round here.
